What's On

GFF09 will, as before, be hosting an eclectic range of blockbusters, independents, documentaries, shorts and artists films. Many of these films will be screening for the first time, many may never be screened again, so there is no better time to catch them. We'll also be bringing you great guests, exciting events and much more...

We would like to say a big thank you to all you filmmakers who submitted your work to GFF. We are no longer accepting submissions, but we can assure you the standard is high, so keep making those movies and we’ll keep showing them! Keep an eye on the GFF Blog for 'sneak previews' and interviews with the filmmakers of the films we've selected.

GFF09 is proud to announce a retrospective of silver screen legend, Audrey Hepburn. This beloved and enduringly popular icon will be represented with screenings of her classic films, all testament to her talent, style, grace and beauty.

What’s more, we have expanded our festivals within the festival. For those with short attention spans there’s the Shorts Film Festival curated by The Magic Lantern, while the Music Film Festival promises new sights and sounds. The Youth Film Festival caters for young film fans from 3 to 18 and includes schools screenings - book early to take advantage of our early bird discounts.

Finally, Frightfest returns, with enough scares, spooks and screams to fill a weekend.

Add to this a strand in which we say “Viva Mexico!”, and the regular ingredients of Documentaries, Great Scots, British, European and American Independent strands. Don’t say we don’t spoil you!

GFF09's Retrospective

Hepburn Retrospective

This year's retrospective celebrates the life and work of Audrey Hepburn who would have celebrated her 80th birthday in 2009.

"She is evergreen, her image is absolutely everywhere these days, from handbags to posters. She's a great 1950's icon. There's something about the fact that as the world tumbles into misery, people are looking for escapism and romance, Audrey has an elegance that offers a place you want to escape to on a grey February."

GFF co-director Allan Hunter in The Herald on Sunday. Read the full article here.
