This evening we wind up the Glasgow Shorts Film Festival with The Magic Lantern's last two programmes of the festival: Best of Little British (CCA, 18:00) (featuring Sam Taylor Woods award winning short Love You More and Scottish BAFTA winner Ma Bar) and Between Us (CCA, 20:00) (featuring Palme d'or winning Megatron) followed by Q&A's with some of the filmmakers...
We will then party on at Glasgow's legendary club night OPTIMO who're hosting our closing festival party featuring Desmond & The Tutus and Guest DJ JackMaster. The Magic Lantern have gone surreal and programmed a selection of classic avant-garde shorts which will screen pre-gig, and have brought in designer Lindsay Lees to build a Twin Peaks inspired Red Room where we'll screen David Lynch's short films. Please bring along your GFF Shorts ticket for reduced price entry
And as part of the festival reclaiming Glasgow as a 'Cinema City' - there will be a GAP SITE/ projection onto a wall outside SubClub. The building the Sub Club is housed in opened as the Grand Central in 1915, seating 750 in a conversion of the upper floors of an existing warehouse. The cinema closed in 1966, and lay empty for several years, before re-opening as the Classic Grand in 1973. This used only some of the original cinema space, and sat 365. The name changed again to the Cannon Grand in 1985, before finally closing as the Curzon in 1992.
