Glasgow Film Festival is delighted to announce that comic book legend Mark Millar, writer of recent box office success Kick Ass, has agreed to be an ambassador for GFF.
He will be working with the festival programming team to create a strand of comic book film screenings within GFF11 and 'tapping up his UK comic buddies as guests'.
Millar says, 'This is going to be damn good and we'll be getting our guests together soon. Very exciting!'.
Allison Gardner, GFF Co-Director, agrees, 'This is a great opportunity for comic fans to see great films on the big screen, surrounded by fellow enthusiasts. We’re delighted to have Mark on board as an ambassador, he’s leading the way in regard to comic book adaptations for film and I can’t wait to see how the programme shapes up'.
Glasgow-based Mark Millar is the man behind Marvel and DC comic greats such as Spiderman and The Fantastic Four. Millar was the highest selling British comic-book writer working in America in the 2000s. Movie adaptations with all-star casts are now familiar for the Coatbridge-born writer with the adaptation of Wanted (2008) starring James McAvoy and Angelina Jolie and Kick Ass (2010) starring Nicholas Cage recently blasting their way onto our cinema screens.
Kick Ass had a special preview screening as part of Glasgow Film Festival 2010 with Mark Millar in attendance.
