Eccentricities Of A Blonde-Haired Girl (Singularidades De Uma Rapariga Loura)
The remarkable Manoel de Oliveira is 101 years old and has been making films for over seventy years. His latest is based on a short story by Eca de Queiros and is a typically slim, elegant reflection on that old devil called love. De Oliveira’s grandson Ricardo Trepa stars as Macario, a Lisbon accountant who becomes infatuated with the beautiful blonde girl he spies in the widow across the street. Infatuation leads to obsession but Macario is an old-fashioned romantic, bound by social codes that seem more appropriate to a Jane Austen novel than a 21st century suitor and he discovers that the path of true love is strewn with obstacles.
