Before the fall of the Berlin Wall, fashionable East Berliners created a fantasy world that was not available on state stocked wardrobes and clothing retailers. This fascinating documentary examines the perils of an industry taken for granted in the west, and has the insight of both director Wilms – labelled an ‘enemy of the state’ as a teenager - and stylist Frank Schafer. This personal account is at times very touching, and also very thrilling – a constant fear of arrest hangs over the scene. The screening is followed by a grand fashion show staged by Noir! and a warehouse party reflecting the theme of the film.
