Big Fan
The State of Independents
Robert D. Siegel wrote the tangy script for Mickey Rourke’s heartrending comeback in The Wrestler. He brings a similar sympathy for the lone, misfit outsider to his impressive directorial debut. Patton Oswald stars as Paul, a thirtysomething garage attendant living at home with his mother. His life revolves around an obsessive devotion to the New York Giants and his frequent calls to the local sports radio show. He is their number one fan, so it seems entirely appropriate that he follow his favourite Giants player into New York for a night on the town that has all kinds of unpleasant consequences. A quirky, expertly realised character drama.
