Bergfest
European Cinema

Made for just €50,000 in ten days, Bergfest is an exemplary piece of low-budget, independent filmmaking from writer/director Florian Eichinger. The eerie silence and snow-covered vastness of the Bavarian Alps provides an atmospheric setting for an intense family drama with echoes of Thomas Vinterberg’s Festen. 25 year-old Hannes is on a mountaineering trip with his girlfriend when they stop at a little family hut that is supposed to be deserted. Instead, he discovers his father and his girlfriend. Conditions make it impossible to leave yet bad feelings make it undesirable to stay as father and son have not met in eight years.
