Arsenic & Old Lace
Riotously funny adaptation of the long-running Broadway farce with Cary Grant giving a masterclass in frantic comic exasperation. It should be the happiest day of Grant’s life as he enters into a state of holy matrimony with the lovely Priscilla Lane. Then all hell breaks loose as he discovers the unholy activities of his kindly spinster aunts and their lethal elderberry wine. Add to the mix an eccentric uncle who believes he is Teddy Roosevelt and fugitive criminals Peter Lorre and Raymond Massey who have no idea of the madhouse they have entered. A true classic of black comedy that has stood the test of time.
