The latest film from nouvelle vague veteran Jacques Rivette is a typically elegant tale of the eternal clash between life and art recounted with a witty lightness of touch. Jane Birkin stars as Kate, a woman returning to the circus she abandoned fifteen years earlier. Stranded next to her car on a country road she finds her knight in shining armour with the appearance of Vittorio (Sergio Castellitto). His magic touch soon brings the car back to life and might just be enough to restore Kate to a state of happiness as we discover how she has become trapped by the tragedies and regrets of her past.
