Wake In Fright
First shown at the Cannes Film Festival in 1971, Wake In Fright has been described by Nick Cave as “the best and most terrifying film about Australia in existence”. Long considered a lost masterpiece, it has now been rediscovered and beautifully restored to a fresh wave of acclaim. Gary Bond stars as a young teacher who plans to stay overnight in a rough outback mining town before catching a plane to Sydney. One night becomes a five day alcohol-fuelled odyssey of drinking, gambling, selfloathing and self-destruction. A raw, uncompromising work from director Ted Kotcheff that deserves to be much better known.
