Trucker
Michelle Monaghan gives the performance of her career in this enormously likable melodrama. Monaghan’s Diane is a harddrinking, independent truck driver who lives life according to her own set of rules. When her ex-husband reveals that he is terminally ill, she must finally assume responsibility for the son she abandoned years earlier. You may guess the outcome but what makes it so fresh and moving is the strength of the performances with Jimmy Bennett capturing the resentment and wariness of the boy and Monaghan refusing to sugar-coat her portrait of a selfish woman forced to re-think her priorities.
