Lebanon (Levanone)
Samuel Maoz’s extraordinary autobiographical debut feature Lebanon won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. Maoz was a twenty-year-old novice soldier in the early days of the first Lebanon war in 1982. Traumatised by his experiences, he ultimately decided to confront the past by creating a fictionalised version of harrowing true events. The film follows four young Israel soldiers in a single tank on a mission to enter a Lebanese village and clear it of possible PLO terrorists. It is a mission that goes horribly wrong resulting in death, destruction and a claustrophobic, sweatily convincing account of the living hell of modern warfare.
We are delighted to welcome director Samuel Maoz who will be introducing the screening and will participate in a short Q&A session.
